1. Malls are fading, making way for new entertainment -Link
- This story talks about the struggles that malls face in the ever changing consumer market and the multiple new ways that business are setting up to sell their products in new and exciting ways.
- Consumers are no longer interested in walking around in a boring and white-washed mall. They now prefer an open and interesting environment to shop in.
- This change in consumer preference mostly affects the major big box stores that were once the cornerstones of the malls but now are suffering from lack of people coming into the malls.
2. New rides coming to Universal in 2019 - Link
- This story talks about the exciting developments that theme parks are making all year in 2019. The theme parks have all announced multiple new rides and even prospects of opening new parks at sometime in the next year.
- The theme parks are all pitted against each other and must keep up with each other to compete in this extremely competitive market.
- It's not necessarily a problem for one person but the fact that the theme parks are always competing means that if one starts to struggle or do very poorly then they will suffer even more.
3. Esports, startups plan for major push in 2019 - Link
- This story talks about the major opportunities that Orlando has to be a hub for Esports and gaming conventions in the future. Many aspects about Orlando make it very attractive for hosting a lot of people at once.
- Orlando wants to expand what it has to offer especially in terms of entertainment. I think that this is a really good opportunity to expand on a market that they are already somewhat in control of.
- The problem with this is that many other cities also would like to have a piece of this market and will make bids as well.
4. Short staffs and long lines at U.S. Airports - Link
- Long lines have always plagued airports, the people who work there, and travelers who are trying to go somewhere. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this problem is to either make expensive airport renovations or to hire more staff.
- The major changes that the airport would have to undergo to see a difference in the wait lines are not economically feasible in the current climate.
- The problem with this is that it is very inconvenient for everyone when they are locked in the airport because of long lines.
5. Carnival delays plan to charge for room service - Link
- Carnival planned to start charging people extra for room service due to the economic climate and the fact that many people did not even care if their room was clean when they got back in.
- This is a problem because people have come to expect this great service and they will no longer receive it.
- Everyone that has ever been on a cruise has come to expect this great service and now they will have to pay extra to experience.

ReplyDeleteThanks for providing the link and summary for some great articles. I enjoyed learning more about some of the problems you outlined.
I also wrote an analysis about long wait times at the airport. I, however, covered the lack of TSA employees due to the government shutdown. Ultimately, both result in long lines and congestion.
Feedback: I like that you wrote your summaries in bullet point format. It makes it much easier to read and understand. I suggest sticking with this format in the future if you can.
