8A - Solving the Problem

I truly think that the simple solution to improving the efficiency of airport security is pre-check and education. Pre-check is a system that is already in place in some airports but is vastly underutilized. I think that people with no criminal history or red flags should be able to fill out a profile about themselves and then should be able to breeze through security without going through a full body scan or taking off their belt and shoes. These are the main things that slow down security and if they could be eliminated, all the process would be is walking through a metal detector and putting your bag through the belt scanner. I really believe that the solution is that easy and you could still keep the more extensive security measures for people that have been convicted of crimes or are suspected of committing a crime. Also educating people about how to go through security and what is required of them will help immensely. If people are ready for the checks, they will go much much smo...

7A - Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

1) The opportunity that I would like to pursue is the opportunity that airports in the United States have a major opportunity to fix the long security and TSA lines that occur at almost every airport. 2) Airports in the United States are unable to conveniently and efficiently screen and security check patrons because of the large amounts of people and the strict regulations that must be followed by TSA and other security in the time since 9/11. The who: United States Airports The what: Unable to move patrons quickly and efficiently through security checkpoints The why: Mass amounts of people with limited resources in terms of workers 3) Testing the who: I talked to a few of my friends that I knew had traveled recently and the conclusion I came to is that everyone is affected by slow security at airports. I believe that I am not alone in believing that there is a very necessary need here. I think that anyone that consistently flies or has flown in the past decade can agr...

6A - Identifying Current Economic Trends

1. A current trend in the economy is that the United States is no longer the absolute global powerhouse that it once was. This means that the economy of the United States is not necessarily weak, but it isn't as dominant as it once was. I believe that this is an opportunity because now other less rich countries have a chance to catch up and make a lot of head ground in terms of the world economy. This is a good thing because the more countries that are rich, the more rich the world is as  a whole. I found this article on thebalance.com and it really stood out to me that the US economy is not as strong as it once was. 2. Another current trend in the economy is that a recession like the one in 2008 and 2009 is inevitable and that we must go through these economic highs and lows throughout time. This is an opportunity because it gives us a fair warning to prepare for the economic downshift and we will be able to take advantage of the prior knowledge so that we can save up some money...

5A - Identifying Local Opportunities

1. Malls are fading, making way for new entertainment - Link - This story talks about the struggles that malls face in the ever changing consumer market and the multiple new ways that business are setting up to sell their products in new and exciting ways. - Consumers are no longer interested in walking around in a boring and white-washed mall. They now prefer an open and interesting environment to shop in. - This change in consumer preference mostly affects the major big box stores that were once the cornerstones of the malls but now are suffering from lack of people coming into the malls. 2. The theme parks have all announced multiple new rides and even prospects of opening new parks at sometime in the next year. - The theme parks are all pitted against each other and must keep up with each other to compete in this extremely compe...

My Opportunity Belif

I believe that an opportunity exists in the consumer electronics space to create more affordable but better sounding speakers. Many of the speakers that you see at best buy or target are very expensive and don't quite create enough sound to justify their high price points. I know a little bit about speakers  and I think that some could be created with better sound for a lesser price. The need for quality speakers has existed basically since they were invented. Everyone wants to hear music in the best quality but for most people, they will never truly experience the music as the artist had intended and instead will hear a distorted and worse version of the song. There are a few companies working on this problem but they still seem to be a bit far off because after a certain price point, the sound gets noticeably better on a pair of speakers. Customer 1: My neighbor Ben (College student) I asked ben about his speaker preference and needs. He said that this year when he finally fig...

My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
My entrepreneurship story would probably have to include the time that I created my own neighborhood baseball league when I was in 5th grade. My friends and I were always outside playing and running around. We loved to play all different sports and games all day until there simply wasn't enough sunlight left for us to play. We loved every game but we all agreed that we loved to play 4 vs. 4 baseball the best of any game. Although playing informally was fun and still a good time, I thought it would be really fun to make a baseball league with set teams, trades a name and a designated stadium. So I got to work creating the "Sienna league" (named after the street the games were played on). I got 20 kids from my street and the next two streets over to join the league and we had so much fun playing baseball and holding a home run derby every month. I really saw the potential for a more organized way to play that would keep the game interesting and fun and to my knowledge, ever...

Bug List

Bug List 1.      The buffet line where I eat lunch is far too slow and it takes way too long to get food and eat. Many times, the area around the hot bar is too crowded and the kitchen staff cannot access the bar to refill it quickly enough which creates a massive traffic jam. 2.      There is no easy or convenient way to effectively clean up clumps of dog hair off of the floor. Having brown floors and brown dog hair makes it nearly impossible to see and clean up all of the dog hair which allows it to accumulate over time. 3.      In classes without assigned seating, It can be very disorienting to have to change where you have been sitting for almost half a semester because someone else decided to sit in your seat. I think every class should have assigned seating.  4.      There is far too much litter everywhere you look in Gainesville. Many people are too ignorant or lazy to find a proper tr...
